Shidduch resume template: what goes in each section

Every shidduch resume follows roughly the same shape, and readers are used to it. Use this template to make sure nothing is missing and everything is where a shadchan expects to find it.

1. Personal details

The header of the resume. Short, factual, easy to scan.

  • Name and Hebrew name
  • Date of birth or age
  • Height
  • Current city; where you grew up
  • Citizenship, if relevant

2. Religious life and community

Where you daven and how you describe your community. Keep it to what you would say if asked directly.

  • Community or hashkafa
  • Shul and rav
  • Head covering or other observance details, if relevant
  • Languages spoken at home

3. Education and work

Institutions in order, then plans.

  • High school
  • Yeshiva or seminary (and years)
  • College, degree or training
  • Current occupation
  • Learning and career plans

4. Family

Parents first, then siblings in birth order.

  • Father: name, occupation, shul
  • Mother: name, maiden name, occupation
  • Siblings: name, age, married or single, spouse and city if married
  • Grandparents, if families usually include them in your community

5. About me, and what I'm looking for

Two short paragraphs at most, in your own voice. One about you — what you do with your days and what you care about. One about the person and home you hope to build.

6. References

Name, how they know you, and a phone number each. Ask them first.

7. Who to contact

Usually a parent or older sibling: name, relationship and phone. This is who a shadchan calls first, so make sure they have the resume in front of them.
